The "American Dream" is an idea that can have several interpretations, realities and perspectives - that means, it is different for everyone. To many the "American Dream" is the possibility that anything can happen. For those who believe anything can happen - it is an enticing opportunity to be able to be able to work, achieve and succeed their dreams, especially for those who come from places, families and situations where a different life seemed impossible.
For the Younger family, the "American Dream" is the idea that the $10,000 will buy them not only a house, but a home where the family can accomplish all the things that they have dreamt of but cannot fulfill in their cramped apartment. The apartment that cramps not just their space, but their lives as well. Money, is opportunity to become better, learn more, do more.
TASK: Create a college that you feel shows what the idea of the "American Dream" is in images - use your creativity to draw, cut, paste and label the images that you feel show what this idea signifies to you. You may draw, print or use magazines, etc. to create the collage - you may also use digital images. The collage should be no bigger than 11 by 8 inches (regular sheet of paper) and each image must include a caption as to its significance to the definition of the "American Dream. "
You have 2 class periods to complete the task - you may print as much as you need - while being mindful that the images you print should be deliberate and not haphazard.
